Mr. Watts recently joined our BluuCrew and we couldn’t be more proud! They specialize in Digital Twins: a virtual replica of whatever object, process, asset, … you can imagine. Why? Because these digital twins can enhance decision-maing based on accurate, real life data and valuable insights. And that’s exactly what Mr. Watts created for DEME, a leading player in the offshore wind industry.

Mr. Watts X DEME

DEME was looking for a partner to develop a digital twin of their largest groundbreaking vessel, the Orion. However, creating a digital twin of such magnitude presented challenges. That’s where Mr. Watts came into the picture!

Initially, DEME wanted a tool to visualize the ship in 3D to easily show it at conferences and fairs around the world; as bringing the actual ship isn’t that obvious. They wanted a way to show the ship in a portable, easy, reusable and truthful way. But because of the largeness and millions of polygons needed in the design, that was a challenge. Enter Mr. Watts!

Mr. Watts’ developers devised a smart glasses solution with HoloLens to visualize the ship at a real-life scale, in perfect quality. So it seems you’re really on the ship, can walk around on it and even explore it from various perspectives or teleport yourself to other locations on board. Leveraging Azure cloud technology, the ship’s 3D model is rendered remotely, ensuring the highest quality visuals. You could say: better than reality. 😉

Next to showcasing the ship, this digital twin would also serve as a valuable resource for maintenance information in the future.

Looking ahead, DEME will use the Digital Twin to analyze the real-time information concerning maintenance tasks performed daily on the Orion. By visually mapping these tasks, potential risk zones can be identified, providing a clear overview and facilitating efficient decision-making.

Did you know?
The application has already made appearances at numerous global events, including the Nerdland Festival and alongside the actual Orion. Additionally, it has a permanent spot at the Mercator Museum in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium.

No need to say, Digital Twins offer immense value for businesses, enabling enhanced visualization, accessibility, and real-time insights. By adopting digital twin technology, your company can unlock numerous benefits and stay ahead in an increasingly digital world.
